Virtual and Augmented Reality in Design and ConstructionGUEST EDITOR(S): Dr. John I. Messner, Associate Professor SUMMARY: Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are exciting technologies that offer considerable potential benefits in all stages of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) process, from initial planning and conceptual design to facility management and operations. VR and AR allow people to visualize and interact with a building or infrastructure design and construction process in the early stages of design, and allow for improved communication and innovation within projects. We encourage authors to submit papers related to research and development topics focused on the use of VR and AR for the planning, design, construction, and operations of buildings and the built environment. Potential topics may include:
PUBLISHING FORMAT: The papers should be structured in a way that clearly defines the background, objectives, methodology and results of the work. Authors are requested to use the ITcon formatting rules for all submissions. Due to the online delivery, we are also encouraging the submission of corresponding multimedia files in video format or other interactive model formats that will be electrically posted along with the final article (in PDF). These media files will be linked to the papers when they are placed on the website which will provide a more interactive means of communicating your research and can be particularly valuable for work in VR and AR. Please contact the editor to discuss potential formats for additional multimedia content. SUBMISSION PROCEDURE AND CONTACT ADDRESS:All submissions, including possible VR-demos, and inquiries should be sent by email to the guest editor at jmessner@engr.psu.edu. Do not use the normal ITcon electronic submission system for this special issue.
